Care guide

Follow our helpful tips for protecting and caring for your jewellery, and rely on our service to ensure you enjoy wearing your pieces for a long time.

Protection & care

Jewellery also shows signs of wear over time — they are simply signs of its history and the natural wear and tear of everyday life.

How often and how you wear your jewellery leaves its own personal mark over time. Many pieces are made for everyday wear, but rings and bracelets come into contact with other surfaces more frequently and are therefore more sensitive. Careful handling is worthwhile, as the delicate facets cannot be replicated.

Avoid rubbing & impact

If you take off your jewellery before physical activity, you can easily protect it from unnecessary wear and tear.

Rings and bangles, in particular, appreciate a break during exercise, gardening, or anywhere else they might be exposed to wear and tear. Wearing multiple pieces on top of each other can also leave marks over time — this is perfectly normal, but good to know.

Proper storage

To keep your jewellery beautiful for a long time, it’s best not to store it loose next to each other — especially when you're on the go!

If the pieces collide, this can damage the surface or the tarnish protection. They prefer a soft home, such as a jewellery pouch or small box. And most importantly, store them in a dry place and away from direct sunlight.

Avoid liquids & chemicals

Important note — Please apply cream and perfume first, then put on the jewellery!

This way, you avoid direct contact with chemical substances that can attack the surface and tarnish protection of your pieces.

It’s also a good idea to give your jewellery a little break when swimming in the ocean or washing your hands. If it does get wet, simply dry it gently with a silver polishing cloth.

Cleaning service

Silver jewellery has chemical properties that cause it to change over time. But don’t worry — we’ll explain why this happens and how you can recondition your jewellery with us.

Silver jewellery naturally reacts with its environment, which can lead to small changes or discolouration over time — and this also applies to vermeil (gold plating).

Chemical reaction of silver

You may have noticed that silver jewellery can darken over time — this is due to silver’s natural reaction to its environment.

Unlike gold, silver reacts chemically with sulphur compounds in the air, such as hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), which comes from car exhaust, industrial waste, or even certain foods like eggs or onions. This creates silver sulphide (Ag₂S) — visible as a dark to black layer on the surface. This process is called sulfurization and is the main reason why silver jewellery tarnishes over time.

Oxygen can also have an impact, especially when silver is exposed to moisture and air simultaneously. This leads to further oxidation — both are a natural part of the ageing process of silver.

Tarnished ‘Vermeil’

Our gold-plated jewellery is made from recycled RJC 935 silver coated with a layer of 3 micron 750 gold — this is called ‘Vermeil’.

As with all jewellery, gold-plated jewellery naturally changes over time. Friction, perspiration, or contact with chemicals can slowly wear away the gold layer, revealing the silver underneath.

Even through small pores, the silver can react with oxygen and sulphur compounds in the air, resulting in a darker discolouration.

Natural pH of the skin

The natural pH value of our skin also influences the tarnishing of gold-plated and silver-plated jewellery.

Our skin has a slightly acidic pH, typically between 4.7 and 5.75, created by the acid mantle. This protective layer is composed of sweat, sebum, and other substances and forms an environment on the skin’s surface. Because this layer is slightly acidic, it can react with precious metals and gradually alter the coating.

However, how quickly or severely a piece of jewellery tarnishes depends on each person and depends, among other things, on skin type, sweat composition and care habits.

While there are many home remedies online that claim to help you clean tarnished silver jewellery, we advise against these, as they can potentially damage the pieces. Instead, we offer a simple and secure service where you send us your jewellery, and we’ll professionally clean it for you.

Just send us a message so we can send you the address of our workshop and quickly prepare your jewellery!

Touch-up service

If the gold plating fades over time, we’ll make sure your jewellery shines again soon!

When refreshing the gilding, the goldsmith focuses on the surface of your piece and re-gilds it.

Please note that extensive repairs, such as patching dents or reshaping edges, are not possible. These small imperfections are simply part of your jewellery’s history, as natural wear and tear can occur automatically through contact with other objects.

Simply send us a photo of your piece of jewellery and provide us with all the information via email. Once we receive your request, we'll get back to you as soon as possible with a timeframe.

Warranty

We want you to enjoy your jewellery for a long time. If something goes wrong, you’re covered!

You have two years from the delivery date to assert claims under the statutory warranty. This covers manufacturing defects or hidden defects — but not normal wear and tear or improper care.

These include, for example, discolouration, stains, scratches, dents, or any deformation that may occur from everyday wear. In such cases, we are happy to offer you an exchange, although additional production costs may apply. Of course, you will receive a non-binding cost estimate in advance.

If your jewellery is defective upon delivery, please contact us as soon as possible so we can take care of it.

To process your case quickly, please send us the following information by email:

1. Order number and purchase date
2. Photos of the piece of jewellery
3. Brief description of the problem

Thank you in advance for your support!
